Direct Support Professionals Conference – Sept 16th

The DC Coalition’s Direct Support Conference will be held on Friday, September 16th at Gallaudet’s Kellogg Center fro 8AM to 4PM.  This year’s theme is “Employment Is Everyone’s Business.”

Much of change that will be required by March 2019 coming from CMS and within the national supports realm revolves around personal choice and employment as a cornerstone to effective supports.  Even residential services will need to include goals and strategies which address employment.  While in the past, providers have primarily sent residential staff to prior DC Coalition conferences, we urge you to include your job coaches, day and employment support staff as well as your residential support team members as participants in this conference.  Attendees will choose sessions based upon what is of most value to their own professional path.  Our list of speakers and our engaging agenda is highlighted below:

  • Maria Town – Office of Public Engagement at The White House;
  • Lisa Stern – National Expert on Disability Employment;
  • Andrew Reese – Interim Director of the Department on Disability Services and Director of the DC Rehabilitation Services Administration).

We will have sessions on Vocational Rehabilitation; How Families and DSPs Can Work Together to Support Employment; Customized Employment and Career Paths, Financial Literacy and much more.  Of course, we will have lunch and our awards ceremony and raffle at the close of the event as well.

We offer a  reduced rate for Coalition members.  Click on the link below for more information.
